Album of GenresThis project is based on the early developments of computer-generated art in the 1950’s, which relied on algorithms to create geometric shapes and patterns through mathematical calculations and rules. I had gathered data from my Spotify to create a data visualisation of how many songs I have listened to over the past month. Each individual icon is grouped by genre, and together they form a single song—meaning one song could blend two to four different genres.

Each line going downwards shows how many songs I have listened to that day, from morning to night. I had used colour to represent my genre preferences, with warmer colours indicating my favourite genres and cooler colours representing those I liked the least. Each symbol which represents a genre is carefully considered and created by looking at how that genre is portrayed visually. This is by looking at how up-beat a genre is, is it fast paced or slow? Using tools or icons which are recognisable, or simply replicating how the genre is spelled through the use of shapes.


























Creating an album cover helped bring the entire concept together. The poster seamlessly fits into the vinyl record sleeve, giving it a sense of authenticity.
